Sui Dhaga – A vision for Empowered Women
Bosconet in collaboration with Bosco Seva Kendra and Siddhantham Tollway Private Limited – a part of Safeway Concessions Pvt. Ltd., inaugurated the program ‘Sui Dhaga – Empowering Women’ in November, 2021. The initiative was to provide vocational-skills based training in tailoring to young women. This project has since grown successfully in fulfilling its purpose of supporting and empowering women from marginalized and vulnerable backgrounds towards a brighter future. The women live in the Salesian Surakshita Home located in Ravulapalem, Andhra Pradesh and are survivors of domestic abuse or have been abandoned by their families.
The first batch of 25 women have successfully completed a 3-month intensive tailoring training and gained sufficient skills envisioned under the project to function as independent tailors. A further step towards their rehabilitation will be the provision of sewing machines to initiate a process of self employment, independence and becoming a contributing member of society.
The second batch is underway and has proven to host a group of women who are eager students, regular to sessions and show a keen interest in acquiring this skill. They have completed a 30 lesson course that includes skills like – terminology of instruments, paper cutting, tape measurements; stitching frocks, inner bunions, skirts, blouses and chudidars.
The women have shown much gratitude for this skill especially during the Covid Pandemic which has been an uncertain time in their life. Gratitude for this initiative goes to Siddhantham Tollway Private Limited – a part of Safeway Concessions Pvt. Ltd.
