The flood situation in Assam remains grim with a rise in deaths to 159 people. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has estimated that the devastating floods caused by incessant rainfall has affected 84 lakh people and 4941 villages forcing 2,71,125 people to take shelter in 845 relief camps. Authorities have opened 67 relief camps and distribution centres providing shelter to 32,959 people.
The wave of floods in Assam affected several districts of the state’s devastating farmlands, washing away houses, damaging hundreds of kilometres of roads and destroying bridges, rail links, leaving many homeless. Homeless, with no proper food to eat, no communication and no means of livelihood, these communities are confined to community shelters, suffering immensely and in dire need of support. Water logging poses the threat of an epidemic which can claim more lives. The lack of medical support and means to reach the affected leaves makes the situation far worse.
To help the affected receive the relief they need, Don Bosco Network- Bosconet is distributing Emergency Relief Kits to flood-affected households along with necessary medical supplies.
The kits consist of ration materials and hygiene products, with the items purchased from local vendors, packaged and transported to selected locations. Each kit will serve the needs of a family of five for two weeks.
Currently over 4000 families have received relief kits and more await this support. We can only reach out to these families with your support.
We see with the floods in Assam how the absolute fury of nature can wreak havoc on lives.
We urge you to extend your generosity in helping the families of this devastation. Follow the link given below to donate towards the Assam Floods.
