“Write for the Good”
A Capacity Development Training for BREADS (Don Bosco Bangalore Rural Educational and Development Society, India

BOSCONET, the network of Don Bosco Program Development Offices (PDOs) in India, plays a crucial role in consistently enhancing the capacity of its partner organizations in various skill domains. One of its core responsibilities is to empower its constituent partners with continuous skill development.

In pursuit of this objective, BOSCONET organized a comprehensive three-day proposal writing training workshop – ‘Write for the Good 2023” for the Salesians and collaborators of Don Bosco Bangalore Provincefrom 10.9.23 to 13.9.23 with the support of Don Bosco Mission Bonn and Misiones Salesianas, MadridThis program was a practical, hands-on workshop focused on the art of writing effective proposals for community development projects. Its primary aim was to equip the Salesians and collaborators with the essential skills necessary for creating impactful community development project proposals, thereby enabling positive transformations in the communities.

The four-day session at the Don Bosco Provincial House, Bangalore was graced on 10 September 2023 by the presence of distinguished guests, including Fr. Santhanam (Director, BOSCONET), Fr. Sebastian (Rector, Don Bosco Province, Bangalore) and Fr. JittoKunnath (Assistant Director, BREADS, Bangalore). Fr. Santhanam, Director, Bosconet underscored the exclusive nature of this workshop, which was meticulously designed and executed by Mr. Louis Manohar, the National Coordinator of DBS-SA (also a renowned resource person at various national-level training institutes), engaged participants with highly effective and participatory sessions.

A total of fourteenSalesians and staff of the Don Bosco Province Bangalore actively participated in this session. The workshop covered a diverse range of topics, including the key components of a community development proposal, techniques for problem identification, cause-and-effect analysis, various tools for problem analysis, objective analysis, strategy analysis, the significance of well-defined SMART objectives, distinctions between goals and objectives, monitoring & evaluation, risk analysis, activity schedule, budget, sustainability, etc.. Additionally, the training delved into the intricacies of baseline surveys, survey tools, question formulation, and question types.

The valedictory function, held on 13 September 2023 was a momentous occasion. During this event, Fr. Joy Nedumparambil SDB, the Economer of the Salesian Province of Bangalore, delivered closing remarks, offering his congratulations to the participants and expressing his best wishes as they embark on their journey of writing project proposals. Mr. Benny Augustine, Manager of Projects, shared his valuable insights. The programme concluded with the distribution of training completion certificates to the participants, and a vote of thanks was extended by Fr. Previnth Joe Tony, the Rector of Don Bosco KGF.
