Solar Illumination: Enabling Safe & Sustainable Spaces

Integrating renewable energy with community development, the Solar Illumination initiative by Bosconet enhanced energy access and safety in residential educational settings during 2024–25. Implemented at Don Bosco centres in Barapahari and Joypur, West Bengal, the project introduced solar power systems and street lighting solutions to reduce grid dependency and improve living conditions. Alongside infrastructure upgrades, capacity-building efforts ensured long-term sustainability through local maintenance and monitoring practices.

Key Interventions & Impact
● Installed 20 kW and 25 kW solar power systems at Barapahari and Joypur centres
● Set up 40 solar street lamps to improve safety and visibility across campuses
● Trained staff in system maintenance and troubleshooting for sustainability
● Established monitoring mechanisms to track energy generation and carbon savings
● Benefited 621 children, along with teaching and administrative staff households

Advancing Sustainable and Safe Learning Environments
The initiative led to an estimated annual reduction of 53.136 tons of CO₂ emissions and projected a 60% decrease in energy costs. Savings are reinvested into educational programs, strengthening learning outcomes while promoting clean energy adoption and safer campus environments.
