In late June 2025, the “God’s own Country,” Kerala, was flooded due to heavy rainfall, causing immense damage to the infrastructure and livelihood. While some lost their homes and means of livelihood, the communities were distressed due to helplessness.
To ease the situation, Bosconet and BREADS Bangalore, in collaboration with Nestlé, supported those who were severely impacted by the terrors of flooding waters. The distribution was possible with the help of our on-ground partners, Don Bosco Mannuthy (Thrissur), Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan (Cochin), and Diocese of Thrissur.
Resources were smoothly distributed among families through close collaboration with youth and our on-ground partners, witnessed by local leaders, including the MLA, MP, and Nestlé officials. We were able to support families by providing 5,000 dry ration kits across six critical locations (Kaipamangalam, Chalakudy, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Kadaplamattom, Vijayapuram). Each kit contained essential food items such as pulses, rice, oil, and spices to ensure nutrition and dignity for those impacted.
Reaching out to the vulnerable households, including women-headed families, the elderly, and disabled people, were prioritized. Over 20 days, the distribution was carried out with the support of more than 100 local volunteers and in coordination with local authorities. The delivery process was adapted with alternate routes and smaller vehicles to overcome damaged infrastructure.
Despite the challenges faced during transportation due to waterlogged roads and identifying the beneficiaries located in remote areas, our team did not lose its spirit. With Strategic planning, the relief reached all the beneficiaries safely and efficiently, ensuring all 5,000 kits were delivered smoothly and on time.
This initiative addressed urgent survival needs while also contributing to the goals of SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-being). We are grateful to Nestlé for their prompt response towards the flood-affected communities in Kerala. They not only sponsored the relief materials, but were also present during the distribution process.
The relief effort strengthened community resilience and highlighted the importance of timely response and preparedness in disaster-prone regions through unity.
