Building Transparency: Bosconet’s Training on India’s Data Protection Law

August 26, 2025 – In today’s digital landscape, data protection is no longer a choice – it’s a cornerstone of public trust. With the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023 now fully operational, non-profit organizations across India are embracing a new era of compliance, transparency, and accountability.

To support this transition, Bosconet hosted an online training on August 26, 2025, bringing together 60 executives from 35 Don Bosco organizations nationwide. Dr. Anita Rego, founder of PEARLSS 4 Development, unpacked the essentials of the DPDP Act for the social sector – offered practical strategies to help NPOs manage data responsibly and effectively prevent breaches.

Dr. Anita Rego distilled the core provisions of the DPDP Act, 2023 and their implications for social sector. She explained the mandatory period of data retention, robust backup protocols, transparent breach responses, accountability mechanisms, penalty for non- compliance – describing the Act as a “roadmap to compliance that strengthens accountability, protects individual rights, builds public trust”, etc.

The workshop was organized under the leadership of Fr. Santhanam Ubagaram, Director, Bosconet and coordinated by Mr. Louis Manohar, National Coordinator, Bosconet, and the dedicated Bosconet Team.
