Every child dreams of a place where learning feels safe and full of hope. But for the children of Mehekari village in Ahmednagar, this simple dream often slipped away with every rainfall. With no classroom to call their own, they gathered on damp balconies, their voices competing with the sound of thunder and their books soaked with the monsoon air.
Amid these challenges, the spark of determination began to grow. Guided by Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), Maharashtra (Ahmednagar) under Project READ, the young members of the Bal Panchayat (Children’s Council) decided to shape their own future.
In August 2025, they prepared an application to the Gram Panchayat, explaining how the lack of space was affecting their studies. Their courage and collective voice resonated deeply. Just two months later, their persistence was rewarded when the Gram Panchayat approved their request and allotted a classroom for their sessions.
For the children, this was more than just a room with walls and a roof. It was a space where dreams could grow without fear of being washed away. Today, these young changemakers study with renewed enthusiasm, carrying with them a powerful lesson that even the smallest voices can create waves of change when they rise together with purpose and hope.
